Alexa Firat

Alexa Firat is associate professor of instruction of Arabic Studies at Temple University. She teaches Arabic, modern Arabic literature, Arab cinema, and culture and dissent courses at Temple. She is the co-editor of the volume Generations of Dissent in MENA Literary and Cinematic
Productions, as well as working on her own book manuscript tentatively titled “The Historical Imaginary in Syrian Fiction.” Firat is a Fulbright Scholars (Jordan, 2013). Additionally, Firat is a literary translator. Her translations can be found in The Book of Gaza; Beirut 39; Words without Borders; New Voices of Saudi Arabia, The Poetry. She is also the translator of Khalil Sweileh’s award-winning novel Writing Love.
